A. Bergère ‘Les Clos’ 2018
The 2nd of Adrien’s stunning single site wines comes from a truly excellent site within metres of the families’ traditional winery in the heart of Fèrebrianges. The vista from this site allows you to take in the beauty of this part of the world and is the perfect counter point to the glitz and glamour of the other face of Champagne.
The vineyard was planted in 1970 on Argilo-Sableux (sandy, clay soils) to 100% Pinot Meunier which thrives on the clay found in the soils. 50% vinified in barrel and disgorged after approximately 4 years on lees.
A brilliant expression of Meunier that flies in the face of the notion the Meunier simply adds a touch of ‘fruitiness’ to final blends. Savoury and delicious the wine in brimming with all sorts of apple aromas (fresh as well as baked) as well as some more ground-driven base notes. The energy and drive of the wine is a thing of beauty and is a must for lovers of terroir-driven wines of place. – Adrien Bergere
