A. Bergère ‘Terre Blanche Blanc de Blancs’ NV
A. Bergere ‘Terre Blaches Blanc de Blancs’ Brut – Fèrebrianges, Etoges, Congy, Sézanne / Vallée du petit Morin & Sézannais / calcareous soils / 100% Chardonnay / Dosage: Zero
The first of a duo of Blanc de Blancs, made from 100% Chardonnay (there is a 3rd Blanc de Blancs that we’ll ship later in the journey) from a blend of sites from close to the winery in Fèrebriange and also from the Sézanne further south. 30% of the wines in fermented in old traditional 228 litre Burgundian barrels before 10-11 months ageing in barrel before bottling & tirage for the secondary fermentation. Preferring to disgorge the wine after approximately 20 months on lees, in fitting with Adrien’s pursuit of purity, he prefers to age the wine for shorter period than required for official vintage declaration on the label so the wine is labelled as NV even though it is wholly based on the 2020 vintage.
An incredible wine with elegance and class written all over it. Precise, delicate and subtly floral, this BdB is the brilliant expression of Chardonnay coming from the right place where maturity comes in the vineyard rather than having to be worked in the cellar. It is a brilliant example again of Adrien’s philosophy of looking to achieve complexity but without sacrificing elegance and freshness in his final wines.
