It is the spicy and vegetal notes that are first noticed that make this Pinot Blanc from Ingelheimer Lagen by Simone Adams stand out from its primary fruity and somewhat irrelevant “contemporaries” from the same grape variety. Pear compote, citrus zest and a hint of peach are there, but the focus here is on the scent of marigolds, green walnuts and the fine bouquet of fresh, young spring herbs such as tarragon, chervil and borage. The pleasant creaminess turns into mineral saltiness and a strong, crisp acidity in the mouth, before remaining dry, without any noticeable residual sweetness, with a hint of tannins and bitter, smoky spice. This is Pinot Blanc with a lot of structure and grip, which perfectly reflects the limestone Ingelheim terroir.
