Burton McMahon George’s' Pinot Noir 2022
95 POINTS - Qwine Review
"Black pepper and earthy spices open the proceedings. The savoury drive from the whole bunches is evident and is partnered by dried leaves, twigs and autumnal things. Red and dark cherry fruit are bright and charged for action. The flow and delicate touch are superb. Pan juices, some char and game add detail and complexity. It's hard not to love the savoury driven charisma that this wine delivers. It's a beauty and one that will reward over the medium term."
95 POINTS - Winepilot Ken Gargett
"A mix of clones here, with 777 and 114/115, planted in the cooler parts of the Yarra. 175 dozen made. Clones were picked separately. A single whole bunch ferment was then blended with destemmed batches. Wild yeast fermentation and then maturation for ten months on lees in French oak, 30% new. Deep crimson in colour, this wine is elegant and refined with alluring berry notes. Blueberries, cherries, spices and hints of flesh. A lovely fruit-dominant Pinot. The palate reveals an attractive bright cherry character and very fine, silky tannins with excellent length, exhibiting a gentle fade. Drink over the next six to eight years. A cracker."
93 POINTS - Stuart Knox
"A full ruby red colour. Blackberry, loam and clove spice aromatics. Has a richness and density that fills the palate, dark cherry, black loam and smoky spices all lift out while soft and supple tannins remain in the background to gently guide it. It glides with appealing persistence very long and those tannins raise their hand right at the finish to dry it well. Will be fantastic with richer dishes"
The dynamic duo’s upper Yarra Pinot from George’s Vineyard. Hitting you with florals and plenty of sour red cherry, the backbone of the palate is darker cherry, tomato leafy and smoky, throwing earth and cacao into the mix. Oak’s accounted for, acid is ready for drinking action, now or in a bit. Serious but oh so pretty.
