Carlo Giacosa Barbaresco DOCG Montefico 2021
95 POINTS - Kerin O’Keefe
"Intensely floral aromas of iris and violet mingle with baking spice and forest floor on the stunning 2021 Montefico from Giacosa. Juicy and delicious, the palate offers raspberry compote, ripe cherry, cinnamon and ground clove alongside taut, fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it well balanced and vibrant. "
Beautiful garnet red color. Elegant scent with floral tones of roses and spicy notes, giving a deep and complex aroma.
The taste is dry and full-bodied with a harmonious balance between acid and tannins, giving it a strong and persistent structure.
It has impressive aging potential and will undoubtedly develop further over time. Serve this Barbaresco in large, elegant glasses, at a temperature of 16-18°C to highlight its complex nuances.
It is perfect to accompany delicious dishes or simply to enjoy in special moments.
The grapes for this Barbaresco come from the Montefico cru vineyard in Barbaresco, where they are grown in compact soil characterized by limestone and clay. South-facing exposure and located at an altitude of 260 meters above sea level, which gives the grapes optimal growing conditions.
The wine is produced using a modified version of the Guyot training system. After harvest, the grapes are destemmed and lightly crushed, after which the must is fermented on the skins in temperature-controlled steel tanks. The wine is then matured in large oak barrels, and after bottling it is further aged in the cellar, where silence and darkness ensure the optimal maturation process.
