Chateau Valandraud 2003, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru
Crafted from a varietal composition of Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%) by the hand of négociant Jean-Luc Thunevin and his wife Murielle, Château de Valandraud embodies the desire and drive to think and act differently: it gave rise to the 'garage wine' movement in the 1990s, a shift in concept that aligned well with great wines—ultra-careful vineyard management and very small productions. It was born out of humility and the belief that much could be done with little, and from there, it grew to become a Premier Grand Cru Classé. Although the 2003 vintage was not yet classified, the legend was already taking shape. It offers a persuasive blend of fruit and tannins that, after 20 years, will now provide the perfect moment for enjoyment.
