Collefrisio Sottosopra Vino ed Amarene 500ml NV

Sottosopra, or upside-down, is what we're sure of with this delicious and unique dessert wine from Collefrisio! What makes Sottosopra so special is that it's a cherry wine. Pairing wine with sour cherries is a traditional Abruzzo specialty, and several versions exist.

While some producers choose to add cherry liqueur to their wine, Collefrisio's is made from 100% Montepulciano (the blue grape of Abruzzo), to which a little sour cherry syrup is then added.

What makes this wine so surprisingly delicious is the perfect balance of sweetness and acidity. It's definitely sweet, but certainly not flat or cloying, as there's plenty of fresh acidity to balance the sweetness. The Sottosopra is intensely fruity and juicy, with a lovely, pure cherry flavor and a hint of cocoa.

It pairs surprisingly well with a variety of desserts, from chocolate to fruit tart, and we're also quite impressed with the combination of blue cheese. It's best enjoyed well chilled.
