De La Pousse D'Or Corton Clos Du Roi Grand Cru 2020
95 POINTS - Wine Spectator
"Sophisticated and supple in texture, this red is saturated with black cherry, blackberry, loam, iron and spice aromas and flavors. Shows dense, interwoven tannins, while the acidity keeps everything focused and drives the lingering aftertaste. Feels approachable, given the harmony, but give this another three to five years of aging."
Le Clos du Roi is a highly-regarded climat of the Corton Grand Cru appellation in the Cote de Beaune district of Burgundy. This walled site - roughly translated as its name means "the walled vineyard of the king" - is located high on the eastern slopes of the Montagne de Corton hill. Wines from the Clos du Roi are almost exclusively from Pinot Noir and a number of top Burgundy producers have plots here.
Well-toned, bright and vivacious. Opens slowly at first but with time fresh aromas of red and black fruits and warm, earthy spices unfold. On the palate you get black cherries, cranberry, pomegranate and raspberry coulis alongside some smoky liquorice and truffles. With fine-grained tannins, supple mid-palate and an energetically mineral finish. Decant for 1 hour beforehand.
