Deep Woods Estate Estate Cabernet Franc 2023
We had a mild spring with adequate soil moisture, resulting in a slightly later season. A moderate summer led to ideal ripening conditions with little pressure in the vineyard and a lack of any major rain events during the ripening season. Consistently warm days and cool evenings made for great retention of acid within the grapes, whilst achieving optimal fruit expression.
The Deep Woods Estate Cabernet Franc is an expressive blend of two mature vineyards in the Yallingup hills region of Margaret River that captures and frames the beauty of this wonderful varietal. The fruit was hand-picked and sorted, gently macerated for 10 days before maturation for 9 months in seasoned French oak.
The wine is deep ruby in colour. The nose displays layers of red cherries, raspberry seed and wild herbs while showcasing its unique freshness and youth. At once powerful yet contained with the varieties beautifully matched. On the palate, it is elegant and detailed. Redcurrant, black cherry and subtle spice are all harmonious with subtle oak to ensure full varietal expression is enjoyed.
This wine may be enjoyed on release but will find further complexity three to five years from vintage. – Deep Woods
