Domaine Naturaliste Le Naturaliste Cabernet 2021

“This is Cabernet Franc unlike anything I have seen on this continent…A remarkable ground-breaking statement of cabernet franc in Australia.”
Ray Jordan

Cabernet Franc is the shy little sister of the Bordelaise family: aromatic, soft textured and boasting pristinely fine tannin and drive.

The decision to craft an expression of Margaret River as seen through the mode of this noble and ancient grape was an easy one, particularly when faced with fruit grown in the heart of Wilyabrup and on our quintessentially alimental gravel loam soils.

Having achieved a perfect balance, the fruit is picked, carefully destemmed and kept as whole berries for fermentation. Gently handled and pressed after 12 days on skin to 500L French oak Puncheons, 40% of which are new.

"Dukes introduced this substantial statement of Cabernet Franc a few years ago. This is a Cab Franc with power and concentrated intensity. It starts with an aromatic combination of red fruits, liqueur chocolate and cherry. The palate is firmly structured with firm tannins and a liberal amount of oak supporting an intense fruit. On the finish, a trace of regional ironstone and cracked seashell adds the final flourish. Will handle extended cellaring.’ 95pts Ray Jordan, Ray Jordan Wine.

Of the 2020 “Leafy aromatic nose with lovely scents of red cherry, black tea, brambley fruit, tobacco and coffee undertones. Textured and well-layered, with a long sappy finish.” 96 pts & Gold Decanter World Wine Awards
