Donnachiara Taurasi Riserva DOCG 2020

Donnachiara Taurasi Riserva DOCG 2020

The Taurasi Riserva undergoes malolactic fermentation and ages in barrique. Its aromas evoke ripe dark fruit, tobacco, tar, and graphite, with smoky and spicy notes. On the palate, it is dense and juicy, with soft and persistent tannins, culminating in a broad and long finish. We are in the Avellino area, home to the Petitto family's Donnachiara winery. The winery opened its winery in 2005, but the vineyards were already mature. This project fits into the Irpinia wine scene, now among the finest in Italy, with a small predominance of white wines, although Aglianico also expresses itself at interesting levels. Ilaria Petitto manages the winery, with the support of her mother Chiara, granddaughter of Donna Chiara Mazzarelli Petitto, after whom the winery is named. Donnachiara remains a family-run business, despite the production team drawing from a pool of established professionals. Today, 27 hectares of vineyards are planted—with Campoceraso (Taurasi) and Montefalcione (Greco and Fiano) playing the leading roles—for a total annual production of 300,000 bottles. The style of the wines, especially the reds, is very rich, almost opulent, while the whites, on the other hand, possess remarkable drinkability, even when carrying significant structure.
