Founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja the estate is today run by his great-grandson, Angelo Gaja with his daughters Gaia and Rossana playing a major role in the business. Angelo can take the credit for revolutionising the wine industry in Barbaresco and Barolo. Responsible for the implementation of temperature controlled fermentations, malolactic fermentation, the introduction of international varieties and the use of French barriques. The range of wines from the estate is stunning - from the top end Barbaresco's and Barolo's, through to his Tuscan estates, Pieve Santa Restituta and Ca'Marcanda.
