Guímaro ‘A Ponte’ Single Vineyard Mencía 2021
Guímaro A Ponte is an organic red wine made with the Mencía, Caiño Tinto, Merenzao, Brancelleo and Souson native varieties in the D.O. Ribeira Sacra by the Guímaro winery.
Pedro M. Rodríguez Pérez started this project by picking up a family winemaking tradition that dates back to 1886. To do this, the winery, which was renovated in 1991, has opted for traditional, artisanal and ecological production. All of this work was recognised by the prestigious Parker in 2008, and since then Guímaro wines have become an international benchmark of the D.O. Ribeira Sacra.
Guímaro A Ponte comes from vines aged between 35 and 40 years old, planted in granitic, slate and sandy soils. Thanks to the diverse terrain of the Ribeira Sacra the plots are very different from each other and offer a great wealth of nuances. No herbicides or chemicals are used in the vineyard. The harvest is carried out manually and collected in boxes.
Once the grape has been selected, it is macerated cold for 5 or 6 days. Alcoholic fermentation of Guímaro A Ponte happens at a controlled temperature of 25ºC. After malolactic fermentation, it is transferred and aged for 12 months in used French oak barrels. It is then clarified.
Guímaro A Ponte is a red wine with all the freshness and expressiveness of one of today’s most popular denominations.
