Darkish and purplish. From East to West: grenache at its best. Dark soy, earthy five spice; cinnamon and musk and cardamon; balsamic and then pastis and then English Christmas Cake… Sharp and heightened aromaticity but with depth to plumb below. Underplayed complexity. Clean and clear acidity ushers everything else in: round tannins that are at once both miniature and everywhere; dark berry fruits that are as cool as the cool morning upon which they were cooly picked; and then dry and savoury flavours and textures trip in as if all so naturally intended, by some Great Clockmaker. This is red wine that has a meaningful weightlessness and an elfin heft. Everyone makes grenache this way, don’t they?
