Heirloom McLaren Vale Shiraz 2023 -clearance-
đ Platinum Award at the Decanter World Wine Awards!
An absolute bargain for this level of quality.
"Sumptuous blackberry, raspberry and bramble fruits sink into the palate and linger over the smooth texture. Fulsome and rich with lashings of tannin and spicy oak and a unifying acidity to enrich. Hedonistic and lengthy." - Decanter
Purple to black with vibrancy, deep and dark. Dark fruit aromatics: liquorice and stewed plums bring an intense perfumed frisson. Then blueberry and mulberry and then the earth and granite and clay and all the geology of McLaren Vale pile in. Yet then they are but a background whiff. Gone, but lingering. Mouth-coating. Yes, mouth-coating, yet pretty; even ephemeral in a way, but in a way all of its own. The black and the dark and the more dominant juicy red berry fruit flavours come out to play, then the very soft and off-stage sotto voce tannins float in over the whole ensemble. Whilst holding something more stern and savoury in reserve this red wine is giving and generous.
Heirloom Vineyards was conceived in vintage 2000, when a young winemaking student caught the eye of a silly old wine judge. A love story ensued inspired by two vows: To preserve the best of tradition, the old world of wine and our unique old vineyards, and to champion the best clones of each variety, planted in the most appropriate sites, embracing the principles of organic farming.
