Loosen Barry “Wolta Wolta” Riesling 2022 is a premium dry Riesling born of a unique collaboration between Australia’s Jim Barry Wines and Germany’s renowned Dr. Loosen estate. Sourced from the high-altitude (≈ 480 m) Block 18 of the Lodge Hill vineyard in the Clare Valley, South Australia, the wine is vinified with German-style techniques: wild fermentation in large German oak “Fuder” casks, followed by extended lees maturation to achieve depth, texture and precision.
On the nose the 2022 vintage shows a striking mineral profile—oyster shell, wet slate, sea breeze and citrus peel (lemons, kaffir lime), alongside white flowers and subtle nutty undertones.
The palate is tautly structured with racy acidity, savoury depth, a hint of phenolic grip, and a long, saline finish that gives the wine serious cellaring potential although it is already compelling now.
