MDI Ribolla Gialla
MDI is a small winemaking project, based in Mildura, that focuses on quirky, modern interpretations of classic Italian varieties. Here, they've worked their magic on Ribolla Gialla - an ancient grape, hailing from North-Eastern Italy. Ribolla Gialla has long been used for textural, skin contact wines and MDI demonstrates how it handles the style so well. After pressing, the juice spent six months on skins and then French oak - a process that's often too heavy handed for a white wine, yet this still tastes fresh as a daisy. There's tonnes of bright acidity, notes of orange peel, some dried herb aromas and a lush, waxy finish. Grab this if you're a fan of the rich orange wines of Friuili-Venezia Giulia region - this local homage will not disappoint.
