Onannon ‘Tuerong’ Pinot Noir Robinson’s Road Vineyard 2023
In a warmer pocket of the Mornington Peninsula, it is a vineyard I’ve had many years of experience working with (since 2003). It was this vineyard that I really honed the house style.
Sourced from 36-year-old vineyard, Pinot Noir clones D5V12, G5V15, 777, 114 & 115. The Robinson Vineyard was planted between 1988 and 1994 on lower slopes. The soil is a duplex clay loam. The vineyard is split into three blocks which all ripen at slightly different times, usually leading to a 10-day picking window.
100 percent whole bunch. Worked the cap a bit harder with this fruit so after 8 days cold soak, it was given a daily pigeage. Three weeks on skins, pressed straight to barrel for barrel fermentation. 10 percent new oak. This Pinot Noir shows notes of rhubarb, raspberry and pomegranate. There’s a slight smokiness about it, with vibrant red fruits and minerality. – Will Byron, Onannon
