
Pio Cesare Piodilei Chardonnay 2023
Vineyards
Among the first Chardonnay planted and vinified in barriques in Piedmont and in Italy. Officially presented with 1985 vintage, Piodilei represents the great challenge of the Pio Family to express in “white” the complexity, structure, restraint and longevity of the Langhe terroir, in particular in higher elevation exposures with cooler microclimate.
Vinification
Alcoholic fermentation starts in stainless steel tanks then end in French oak barriques, with very limited use of new oak and delicate toasting, where Piodilei rests for nearly 10 months. Long bottle ageing before release.
Notes
The name Piodilei (translating “Pio for her”) is a tribute to the Ladies of our Family, to their strong character and resolution, typical traits of the Langhe terroir, handed down genetically generation after generation. Spicy and citrus aromas with delicate vanilla hints, great minerality and complexity with a long aftertaste.
Very long life.
Produced in small quantities every year, since 1985.
