Purple-black and deeply coloured. Determined. Classic blackberry and cassis aromatics so typical of the variety. Then the leaner herbal and eucalypt wafts before riper plum and blackcurrant smells wade in. There are hints of earth and leather and tobacco leaf from the distant oak. A complimentary union. Cabernet’s tannins keep this red wine upright and marching on. There’s a hint of just enough acidity to add to the stature, and then there are the unfolding layers of plush black fruits and berries, accompanied by flickering notes of black olive, beetroot, peppermint and pastrami.
