Two Wolves Petit Verdot 2019

Winemaking: The fruit was hand harvested on two dates (Oct 14 & 24, 2019) to allow for more ripeness and complexity. Both lots were destemmed and fermented in stainless-steel vats and a new puncheon barrel. After three weeks on the skins, the wine was pressed to French oak (50% new) where it matured for 20 months until it was racked and bottled. The wine was bottled July 15, 2021.

Vineyard: Two Wolves Petit Verdot is grown on Two Wolves Vineyard: Block 10 (0.86 acre), north-south planted rows. Planted in 2010 to Clone 1058 on Rootstock 101-14. Soil: Positas fine sandy loam with clay.

Vintage notes: Petit Verdot is not a vigorous growing vine, but in 2019 it did it’s best to reach the top wire. This was a very late pick compared to previous years, and the fruit came in perfect and very cold.

Tasting notes: 2019 was a super aromatic year. It shows in this wine especially. Fresh mind, smoky shiso leaf, intense black fruit, rose and wisteria, spicy clove, and citrus peel. There’s an earrthy, chalky loveliness to this wine, but make no mistake… She will dominate you.- Alecia Moore, Two Wolves
