Verget Macon Bussieres Le Clos 2015
The Mâcon-Bussières vineyard is located to the north of the Roche (rock) de Vergisson. Rooted on the rocky, south-facing slope, Le Clos is a small lieu-dit of Mâcon-Bussières and in top years Guffen's vinifies the oldest vines from this parcel as a separate cuvée. With more complexity and flesh than the wine above, 20% of the wine is naturally fermented and raised in Guffen's bespoke wooden barrels. It shows the generosity of the vintage with layers of pulpy fruit yet it remains archetypal Verget; seamlessly poised, perfumed and with great finesse from a year that favoured the Mâcon's cooler, mineral terroirs. There's aromas of flint, acacia, apricot blossom and ripe peach leading to a layered, textured palate threaded with mineral freshness and an earthy, savoury complexity that is pure heaven is such a generous wine. Another cracking, white Burgundy bargain.
