Villa Rosa is a project from Famiglia Cecchi. This is 100% Sangiovese from Chianti Classico in Tuscany. It is a very "old school" style Chianti. Deep ruby in color, mostly clear and a bit flat. The nose is very earthy with cherries, stewed cherries, and some funk (Brettanomyces). This needs some time to partially blow off. Medium bodied. Good acidity. On the palate, tart cherries, stewed fruits and lots of dank earthiness. Moderate finish. This really needs some food and would work better with spicy pizza (Pepperoni?). Not sure if this was a proper bottle or representative bottle so no score is being given at this point. Maybe try before you buy. On the other hand, for those who really enjoyed the Chianti's of yesteryear, this may be more up your alley.
