Whislter Wines Double Back Grenache 2022
This wine displays a bright ruby red colour, reflecting its youthful vibrancy and elegance. On the nose, it offers beautiful floral aromas that exude finesse, complemented by a subtle smokiness from the whole bunch component, which also introduces an extra layer of fine tannin and complexity.
The palate is fresh and crisp, led by a core of bright red fruits that glide effortlessly across the tongue, triggering salivation and leaving you reaching for another sip. The tannins are fine and refined, while the lively acidity brings precision and energy, giving the wine a clean, focused finish.
Vinification included 30% whole bunch fermentation to add spice, aromatic lift, and a crunchy texture. The remaining fruit was gently destemmed in the vineyard and fermented as whole berries, encouraging a juicy carbonic maceration character. A wild ferment proceeded over 12 days in open fermenters with gentle plunging twice daily, followed by a soft basket press. The wine was then matured in French oak foudres and puncheons for six months before blending and bottling without fining, preserving purity and making it suitable for vegan drinkers.
