Wirra Wirra The Angelus Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

"Aromas of tea tree and menthol, with currants and garden herbs, too. There seems to be a concerted effort to cleave fruit, restraint and refinement from the region's predilection for generosity and alcohol. I am not quite sure it works. The tannins are taut and nicely detailed, if not a bit green and tobacco-leaf rough. Time will tell. Scored with the benefit of the doubt."

Ned Goodwin, MW

Brilliant, round cut garnet in colour. Primary cherry and redcurrant, shot through with dried thyme and rosemary. Classical notes of mahogany, cedar, and polished leather with a balancing influence of leaf, bramble, and garrigue. Rich, reserved fruits delivered with the structural influence of Bordeaux oak. Coffee bean, toast, and cured meats add depth, interest, and savoury complexity. Carefully matured tannin is naturally tactile and appetising, carrying youthful fruit the length of the palate.

Taking its name from the ¾ tonne Angelus Bell that sits proudly atop their cellars, the name “The Angelus” is reserved for exceptional parcels of cabernet sauvignon released each vintage to showcase the best of McLaren Vale. Wonderful structure and length with long-term cellaring potential.
