Champagne Jacquesson Dizy Corne Bautray 2014

As well as its outstanding 700-series wines, Champagne Jacquesson also produces tiny quantities of four single-vineyard wines. These Champagnes demonstrate an extraordinary vinosity and showcase our finest terroirs, expressing their typicity and an innate sense of place. These single-vineyard wines are not necessarily produced every year. Indeed, the quality of the vintage must allow the full expression of the character of each terroir. Given that the Cuvée 700 takes priority, they are only bottled if they cannot improve the quality of the base wine for the Cuvée 700. The Corne Bautray plot in the premier cru village of Dizy is situated on the top of a steep slope with a south-west exposure. Clayey soil laden with flinty gravel on Campanian chalk. 9,000 Chardonnay vines were planted in 1960 on this 1-hectare plot and are pruned in the Chablis method.

2014: Winter was wet and particularly mild. After a hot and dry spring, July and August were cool and very wet. A hot, dry and sunny September saved the vintage. The balance between alcohol and acidity was excellent, and the crop was relatively healthy, though some sorting was required upon picking.
