Four Gate Split Stave Kelvin French Oak Finish Barrel Proof Straight Rye Whiskey 58.5% (Limited Release)

Four Gate Split Stave Kelvin French Oak Finish Barrel Proof Straight Rye Whiskey 58.5% (Limited Release)
Four Gate Whiskey Company blends the highest quality whiskey available and collaborates on each batch with the barrel experts at Kelvin Cooperage to barrel finish the whiskey in new and innovative ways.
Batch 27 is a straight rye whiskey finished in French oak Split Stave Casks by Kelvin Cooperage. The mash bill for this batch was 95% rye and 5% malted barley. Aged for a minimum of 7 years, this was distilled in Dearborn County Indiana and bottled at 115.3 Proof.
Nose: Vanilla, toasted marshmallow, black pepper, oak.
Taste: Sweet spearmint with sugar notes and simple syrup.
Finish: Medium; mint notes fade to the rear and finish with a crisp touch of oak.
"Mellow and soft on the nose, it doesn’t scream rye. The palate is also soft, with notes of raisin cake and sassafras, then soft sweet chocolate; mellow and very well-integrated. Nicely balanced overall. Still soft on the finish, and with excellent balanced sweetness. This one might actually be a bit too sweet for fans of spicy ryes, but most rye lovers, and whiskey lovers in general, will like it." - David Fleming, Whisky Advocate (93 Points)
